Well guys, I've made my decision... I'm leaving the military! :salute:

Yeah, I know I was supposed to go to the electric brigade, but the budget cuts were too steep and the 1st class billets are completely closed shut...
No body is getting promoted...
I have no idea how long that will last but I'm not about to reenlist to find out!

Anyway, if all goes according to plan, I'll be leaving Japan (and the Navy) in early October of this year and will be looking for jobs again...
Oh who am I kidding? I'm gonna try out for American Idol, The Voice, The X Factor, and America's got Talent! :P (Hey, you never know until you try right? :shrug: )

Anyway, I decided to upload a quick video of a few different singing techniques and imitations I've developed over the years, feel free to let me know what you think!

-----> www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuW_OU… <-----

Love you guys, and see you on the other side! :wave:

Thank you for your service, and wishing you luck in future endeavors! My brother's feeling the budget cuts too in the FA/18 pilot seat. I don't think they're quite so steep as to block promotions on his end, but they're certainly no fun. Good luck :D

I have so much respect for you for being brave enough to expose yourself to so many people through a show like X-factor. I mean, even if I was good at singing I wouldn't have the balls to jump into a mainstream singing competition.

I have high hopes considering your singing is so much better that what those shows usually get : P

Did you know that you're totally gonna win American Idol? Seriously, half the finalists on that show aren't half as good as you *cough cough* not that I watch that sorta stuff. No, but seriously, you should definitely go for it. You've got the whole Brony community at your back and think of how proud you'd make us when proving to el haters that being a brony can be awesome. But, you know, no pressure. :D

You have incredible talents. I hope the rest of the world gets to see that!

If you want an honest opinion about your singing (and please note the opinion part...)
The only thing that really stick out negativly for me is how you end a line.
I know it's a kind of "style" thing with Goespel, or Micheal Jackson - but it's not something you really should copy. I know popular singers do it, but popular doesn't always equals good, too.
It's really distracting and it throws you out of the mood. It feels forced on, and not natural as well.

It might be a personal dislike, but I really don't think it is that good as some people think it is, just because some popular singers do it.

Your voice sounds great. Did you ever had singing lessons?
I think that some lessons about breathing could really help you out, especially if you intent to train your opera voice further (which was kinda... weak. Don't know if you holded yourself back because of the mic or not though ^^)

Thanks for the constructive crit!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by the way I end the line though. If you are referring to the way I cut off early, I did it to keep the video under the 3:00 min limit. Other than that, I am not sure what you mean.

I have never had singing lessons, but have been giving them for a while as I have been performing professionally on and off since I was 14. (Doesn't mean I have nothing to learn though.) Again, I was kinda just rushing through everything so I could cram as many stiles into three minutes as possible... Perhaps I should have taken more time. ^^;

I'm glad you noticed I was holding back on the opera. I was holding back a lot actually, as every time I tried to hit a note full voice it clipped so badly it sounded like pure static... Dumb lack-of-a compressor. :P

Sorry I didn't replied earlier. Had a lot going on lately.

For "ending the line", I really didn't know how exactly I should name it ^^
Might be because english isn't my natural language.
What I mean are moments like on the first part, where you did a "break" after nearly every word, or at 0:40-0:42 or 0:45 running time. Not the Micheal Jackson "'nah" between the lines, just directly before that. Also happens at 1:26-1:28 and 1:30, for example.

Maybe it would've been better to take a bit more distance to the microphone? Don't know if that would help.
I think, breathing lessons are the most important part on singing lessons. If you rushed through though, it really could be the reason for the partly loud breathing (that you also often hear from other peoples, I know a few german singers who do that constantly and still are popular and celebrated by other musicians, which kinda goes over my head :/ ).
Taking your time probably really would compliment your introduction. It's not as if you're in a casting where you have to convince the jury in a matter of seconds. It would also be interesting to hear a complete song from you, not imitating the original singer, but singing how you would naturaly, more or less using your own style. If you really want to become popular as a singer, I think shining with your own voice instead of the voice/singing style of another singer benefits you in the long run.

Don't know, just my thoughts ^^

Very good point!

To be honest though, this was a casting call. I originally made this video as an audition tape for AGT and the requirement was to show lots of versatility in under three minutes.

If you would like to hear an original song by me, here are a few I have written:

Ok, the reason behind the video explains a lot actually ^^

I like the songs you posted. You definatly have a fine voice, and I like your personal style better then what you showed in the previous video.
Maybe you should make a video with your singing alone - can be one of the songs posted if you ask me, without any instrumentals or editing, just your voice. I think it would show much more about your singing talent then the 3min video did. I at least would be very curious to hear it :)
