Ok... So, maybe it's not plasma. What I did for this pic is set my camera (Go Pro HD) next to a pan on the ground, into which I proceeded to pour burning plastic! The shot is the result of several stills thrown together into a composite image via layer masks in Photoshop CS3.
So coooool, and great idea! I used to do this as a kid (watch burning plastic fall, that is) .... did the plastic make that ffffrrrrrrttt sound as it fell?
Yes it did!! That is actually what inspired me to take the video, and eventually compose the picture! I wanted to see why it made that awesome buzzing noise! I always figured it was the sound of the flame, whipping about in the wind like a piece of fabric, but the video revealed a series of small explosions in rapid succession creating the telltale "fffrrrrrrttt" sound! It's cool that you did the same thing as a kid! I use to use it to light pools of rubbing alcohol and pretend it was the apocalypse over the ocean!! (Thanks by the way! I appreciate the kind comment!!)
Thank you! It is pretty easy to do if you want to try it! I suggest shooting an HD video, That way you can just remove the frames for the composite, much easier!
