An adorable little Orangutan at the Jakarta Safari in Indonesia! She was so playful! I also got to hang out with a leopard, a baby tiger, a few lions, a kangaroo, and of course, some elephants!
Here is a short clip iff y'all are interested! [link]
Where do these animals come from? I'm concerned that they are just used to make money from tourists. I'm surprised to see such photos in a group about falling species.
These are rescue animals. Cubs, joeys, and babies that would have died in the wild due disease, destruction of habitat, or death of their parents. Some are raised tame, and some are kept away from humans and released back into the wild based upon the nature of their condition. There are many places in third world countries that DO harbor and abuse endangered species to attract tourists, and it makes me sick!
Okay, she's too cute not to stand out. She looks perfectly adorable and so comfortable with you, though it's sweet that another is reaching out to get your attention too. I'd never expect them to have such pot bellies, but I suppose her pose here exaggerates things a bit.
Anyway, it's great to see that you're still having lots of fun. Take care.
She was just wonderful! When I first sat down, there where no Orangutan's in sight; then she walked around the corner and pulled herself into my lap. I was amazed at how human her hands (and feet) felt! She was so ambidextrous! She would put my hands on her head, then take them and put them on her face, or look up into my eyes and fiddle with my hair. I was amazed at her intelligence! It was almost eerie...
Thanks for all your comments BTW. I miss chatting with you!
Maybe she could tell you're a friendly and easygoing person. Or maybe she was trying to distract you so one of the others could steal your wallet. Okay, I'm sure it's the former.
On the last point: Ditto. Long as you're enjoying the tour itself and the excursions off ship then I'm happy for you. I have plenty of time for chatting saved up, believe me! The next time you're stuck somewhere and bored then we'll get silly with ponies (or whatever).
