Mozart the Beluga by BlackGryph0n Mozart the Beluga by BlackGryph0n
Went the to the Georga Aquarium while on leave this weekend and spent a few hours with the belugas of which there were four. This is Mozart. (My favorite)
He is 16ft (4.8M) long and weighs almost 2,700lbs! (1,224kg)
Pretty light for a beluga of his size, but the water in his aquarium is relativity warm (58deg F./14.4c.) so he doesn't need all that blubber.

Being the oldest of the belugas, Mozart knew a wide range of behaviors and was very outgoing! Like most whales, he loved to have his tongue rubbed and seemed to enjoy that more than the fish! :P

This is only my second encounter with belugas, but both encounters were very special and and left a memorable impression. This will not be the last time I swim with these awesome animals.

(More animal encounter Pictures in this gallery folder: [link] )

P.S. Rainbowlicious is on it's way! A week at the most! I promise!

The two of you look like you have had lots of fun together... Must be nice interacting with an actual beluga; those kinds of moments don't come around that often, do they? :)

Ahhhh, I'm jelly. I've never been in the water with belugas or touched one but I want to sooo badly. I have interacted with them before though by showing them toys and stuff at the aquarium window, curious whales they are. I wanna touch their melon though, it's squishy from what I've seen!

LOL! It's VERY squishy! Much softer than Bottlenose Dolphins. (Must be all that blubber. :P )
They also love to have their tongue rubbed, (as so many large mammals do.) They are delightful, intelligent animals, and I sincerely hope you get the chance to psychically interact with them some day!

Hmmmmm... That's a toughie, still I'mma have to go with the pale, balled, portly dude. The cold stupid guy in the wetsuit that was too big for him cause he said he was an inch taller to try and impress the girl at the front desk is easily second on the list though! :P

(Thanks Sibsy! You sure know how to make me feel all fuzzy wuzzy... Aaaand I'm done. :smoking: )

When I go fishing during the Salmon runs up here in Alaska, I see these guys swimming along the inlet in huge groups, I'll see dozens of little white humps emerge from under the waves. I think they herd the Salmon in circles and then pick off the stragglers, kinda like dolphins... don't know if it's the Salmon they are eating since the fish are pretty big when they come back to spawn, but that was always my assumption.

They seem like pretty cool animals, though I rarely get to see them up close. They look like jolly ol' dolfins... Adorable with their roly-poly cuteness.

Also lookin pretty fly in the wetsuit.

Dude! I USE TO DO THE SAME THING!! I actually broke my leg at Beluga Point once! :D (I should upload the picture... :plotting: )

Where in AK are you from? I lived just off Abbott road near Hilltop! Seeing Beluga all the time growing up is the REASON they are my favorite! I also love Orca. Use to see them a lot when I'd go scuba diving in Seward.

Thanks! Take care fellow Alaskan Brony! (you are a brony, right? ^^; )

Also I never knew you lived in Alaska. Hilltop even! Small world, eh?

I gotta say you are a true Renaissance man. I love seeing all of your submissions. You have a lot of talent! I dusted off my girlfriend's old tablet and am now trying to do some art of my own. I've also been trying to get into making music again.
